Hi,

I have a question regarding HTTP Server.

As we know that when we install IBM Websphere Application Server it contains 9080 port bydefault which is http port. So why then we need a separate IBM HTTP server for application ?

Any performance concern or else?

Thanks

Yes. There's a performance question. And a lot more 'else' behind this decision.

Go, read, think, learn.

Thanks mqjeff,

I have read the details over the internet but I want to know specific reasons from the experts.

Any 2 or 3 major points that force us to use IBM HTTP Server instead of using default IBM WAS http option.

Please share the specific links.

Thanks.

The specific link is the product documentation.

Suppose you do what you're thinking about doing. You create a single instance of WAS and you tell all of your applications to use it's http port.

You then find that you need to add in another instance of WAS to host more applications.

Whoops!

Dear mqjeff,

Thanks for your reply.

This is what I want to know. As you said if we add more instance of WAS to provide http port for other applications. That will be the again IBM WAS who is providing builtin http support here.

Two questions here

1)So what is the need of installing separate IBM HTTP Server on above IBM WAS ?

2) What if all applications use the same HTTP port? Is there network issue or blockage that stop more users to access application?

These kind of questions can't be google. They must get answered from experienced resources.

Thanks

These are both answered in the product documentation.

I disagree.

I also choose not to answer.
