Is it possible in JMS to connect to any available queue manager in a cluster assuming one or more may not be available at any one point in time?

Could connection pools be used to balance the workload among whatever queue managers might be available?

Using JMS and Clustering, you could define a JMS queue (using the JMSAdmin or MQJExplorer tools) to name a "cluster shared queue". This would then allow the JMS Application to put a message to a named queue and have MQSeries clustering decide the appropriate "real" queue onto which the message will be placed.

Thanx for the reply, but maybe I need to re-state my question. I have had a bit of experience using clustered queue managers, just not they way they are asking for it.

The customer wants a JMS application that can connect(as a MQ Client) to any of a number of queue managers in the cluster.

They do not want to specify or be required in their code to walk thru a channel tab file to determine which queue manager to use.

They want the MQ interface isolated from the in-house code.
