I just installed WMQ on a test system that is on a network outside of my test environment. I created the qmgr via a script I had written that I had used on test systems. After I ran the script, the qmgr failed to connected to the cluster.

After some digging, I found that the script set the cluster sender channel CONNAME to a DNS address... I didn't realize this system didn't have access to DNS so it couldn't resolve the host name. I did an ALTER to set the CONNAME to the IP address of the full repository and the qmgr connected to the cluster. I could now see the new cluster sdr channel in the MQ explorer in the Repository Data Cluster-Sender list of another partial repository. However, when I try to do a queue put to a clustered queue, I get an MQRC 2085

I did some looking around and found that there was a cluster qmgr running on the system and found two things I assumed to be causing problems. One was that there was cluster qgmr called "SYSTEM.TEMPQMGR.nonworkingdns". Since I knew that the non-working dns name wouldn't resolve, I assumed that the system had created this with the dns name I originally provided and was causing at least part of the problem. Secondly, the cluster sender channel appeared to be stuck in a "Binding" state. After some searching on this site, I pieced together some information that eluded to the fact that the channel was trying to bind to the original dns name, but was doing it with the new IP address so it couldn't bind the connection. At this point frustration took over and I stopped the qmgr and deleted it and created the whole thing over again using the IP instead of the DNS.

Now, not only am I still getting a MQRC of 2085 for my cluster queues, but I also see 2 cluster sender channels in the repository data, but stuck in a "retrying" state. Hopefully I can get some guidance here before I go "trying" anything else and making things worse.

Unshare all the queues from the cluster on the affected qmgr.

Unshare the cluster channels from the cluster on the affected qmgr. delete them (force stop if necessary).

restart the qm.

This assumes the qm is a partial repository, not an FR.

If it's an FR, also make it a PR before doing any of the above.

I'm sorry, but I'm unable to find documentation on "unsharing"?

Is this the same as forcing the queue manager out of a cluster?

Ah, sorry.

No, just "alter qlocal(qname) cluster('')".

Unshare, means to remove the object from the cluster.

To remove (unshare) an object, alter the object(s) CLUSTER attribute to remove the name of the cluster - as documented in the WMQ Clusters manual and InfoCenter.

I hope that you also realize that if any of your cluster qmgrs are "natted" (look up the term with your friendly network/firewall admin) the ip information in the channel won't work.

Of course IP V6 was supposed to avoid us having to do things like that...

The best way to handle this mess is really to talk to the network and domain admin and get the dns names to resolve.

Have fun

I have the repository cleaned up, I've got the DNS issue resolved, I've got a new and fresh QM created and joined to the cluster.

However, now I see from the FR that the cluster-sender channel on the FR is stuck in a "Binding" state.

Where do I go from here?

EDIT****
Hold off on answers, I'm pretty sure its a porting issue on our network. The install I just did goes through a different set of firewalls which I believe to be blocking port 1414. While I can ping the clients IP address, a telnet times out on port 1414.
