hi there,
i have a user who connects to a q manager via an mq client(ver 5.0, windows 2000). which works fine. but when he changes the autoexec.bat file to connect to a different q manager all programs he run to put/get still connect to the original/first q manager name he entered in the autoexec.bat file the fisrt time(we reboot after editing the .bat file). i thought when you make a client connection connection details(q manager name, user, etc are read from the autoexec.bat file).
i installed the client on windows 98 and i can connect to any q manager on the network.
unfortunately i am still trying to get a machine to test windows 2000 with.

any ideas.
thanks.

What is set in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file? What did you change in there to specify an different queue manager? I am going to guess the MQSERVER environment variable but would like that confirmed. Also, AUTOEXEC.BAT is old technology. If you are using environment variables, you should set those with the SYSTEM tool under Control Panel.

hi Master Kolban,
thanks for your response.
this is what the autoexec.bat file looks like:
CALL C:PROGRA~1PERSON~1PCSVARS.BAT
SET PATH=C:MQCLIENTBIN;"%PATH%"
SET MQSERVER=LMD1UPAP.MQCLIENT.01/TCP/FNETDEV
SET MQ_USER_ID=mqmuser
SET MQ_PASSWORD=********

after i change the file to point to another q manager the file looks like:
CALL C:PROGRA~1PERSON~1PCSVARS.BAT
SET PATH=C:MQCLIENTBIN;"%PATH%"
SET MQSERVER=LMD1UCOM.MQCLIENT.01/TCP/COMPASS
SET MQ_USER_ID=mqmuser
SET MQ_PASSWORD=********

after changing the file i reboot.
U say using autoexec is old technology:
1. assuming i don't edit the autoexec.bat
file and i use environment variables in
the system tool, what happens when i
connect? is the file ignored because the
variables(MQSERVER, MQ_USER_ID,
MQ_PASSWORD) are blank?
2. how do i set the enviroment variables for
a client connection using the system tool?
i know how to get to the system
properties window.

Regards
