Hi All

I have the following set up - A cluster ( CLUS-1) containing one AIX , One Unix & one OS/390 Qmgr. The Unix box is only hosting the repository Qmgr.

A separate bunch of independent clients running on independent AIX/UNIX/NT machines connect to the AIX qmgr in the cluster ( CLUS-1) using static channels.
The Request Msg flows like this - client qmgr -->AIX-->OS/390
Reply msg flows like this OS/390-->AIX-->client qmgr .

Assuming that the Client applications ( on AIX/UNIX/NT ) & the server application on OS/390 machine cannot be changed , how should i implement the data conversion between ASCII from Client applications & EBCDIC from the server application on OS/390 machine.

By enforcing sensible application programming standards for all MQI programs, one of which should be - always code MQGET with CONVERT.

Then the application will be able to process messages from any platform that has set their CCSID properly and format = MQSTR.

But as said - in this case it is not possible to modify the client & Server applications.
Some thing on the channels can be done. Please suggest.

It's always possible, but not always convenient, to do the right thing.

Sorry, I won't recommend a solution that I think is the wrong approach.

Hi,

Create a normal srd/rcvr channel set to the OS/390 and set conversion by sender.

This is quick and dirty, but it might work.

just my $0.02
