I am wandering if anybody had experiment with using multiple ports for one Queue Manager and if this leads to any perfomance gain or any other side effect

Thanks

We use multiple ports for our queue managers. Originally this was for historic reasons as we started out by using inetd for our port listeners. We then moved to using the MQ listener and the two approaches co-exist. We also define additional MQ listener programs to support different levels of service across different channels.

So, multiple ports work quite happily, but obviously you would need to move away from inetd and use the MQ listener.

Thanks Nick,

We effectivly use the MQListeners. Can you make any statement on the performance or usefullness of multiple ports for one QManager?

In general, listeners:
- start faster
- use less memory
- are easier to configure, start and stop
- offer more control and separation, e.g. can stop traffic coming in on a specific port by closing off that listener

However note that there are restrictions on the maximum number of concurrent connections when using the listener (e.g. 100 for AIX)
