Hi,
anyone have some real life experiences with DataPower and MQ?

at first when I had no details I thought it was the magic box and you
would point your channels at the box and it would 'act' like a queuemanager, but after reading this on DeveloperWorks
http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/websphere/library/techarticles/0703_crocker/0703_crocker.html

I get the feeling the datapower acts like an MQ Client doing get's and put's ...

maybe I was too optimistic about it's capabilities?

since this is a hardware box, how do you get to 'learn' it when not having such a box? any emulators around?

any info welcome...

with DP... it is an MQ (and JMS) client...

there is no emulators that I am aware of...

learning DP - suggest you check out the docs. found here

https://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/iwm/web/preLogin.do?lang=en_US&source=swg-datapower&S_PKG=Entry

there's a good one called example configs that goes over the three main uses for DP

- xml processing
- XML security
- light weight ESB

In my opinion it has a great overlap with MB and ESB... the biggest plus is the speed and XML security capabilities... the downside is no pub/sub and fan-out/aggregation. AFAIK complex data transformations I believe it's on par with the MB which is better than the ESB... but the ESB has the JCA adapters which can include CICS/IMS...

I think as we move to more SOA based enterprises Datapower will become more prominent as I do not see companies forking out the kind of dough required for infrastructure to do XML security processing.

thanks for the link, I am wading through the documentation as I type

I don't see references to client tables, only host, port and channel name which leads me to believe DP doesn't use client tables and messages
exchanged between MQ and DP are limited to 4MB.
Can you confirm this?

there is a funny part in the reference guide that says max message size can be up to 1073741824 (1GB) that
a) contradicts my conclusion
b) is way beyond MQ maxmessage size...

it will be interesting to see what organisations start using this technology ...

We are using DP for AAA(authentication, autherization and auditing) security implementation, validation, MQ to HTTP etc. This product is compatible only for TDS (Tivoli Directory Server) when implementing password digest ws-security standard.

I like the product because it is easy to configure the apps.
