Hi,

I noticed that there are some "GHOST" queues that appear under the QUEUE folder along with other the other system queues.

Does any one know what these "GHOST" queues are used for?

Does there appearance indicate a problem with the system?

Thanks,

Rob

Can you elaborate on what you mean by ghost queues? Note that anything you find in the IBM implementation folders for MQSeries are fair game for IBM to put whatever it feels is useful there.

On a rough guess, I might imagine that these would be temporary dynamic queues that only exist for the lifetime of an application.

They are queues that have the word "GHOST" in the folder name them.

Are you using Clustering? I've run into the problem in the past where you delete a clustered queue, and although it's gone, the repositories (and hence every other machine in the cluster) still thinks it's there. It behaves like a "ghost" queue because you can reference it and even open it, but any puts or gets to it fails, and when you try to alter, delete, or otherwise modify it, the queue manager says it doesn't exist, although it appears in the 'dis qcluster(*)' command...

IBM seems to have an open APAR - IY21794 which talks about the creation of GHOST queues as a side effect. You might also want to check for entries in any .FDC files.

Does anyone know how to read the details of an IBM Apar through the web?

Neil,
To look at the APARs and fix details I just go to the IBM MQSeries site, and from there click downloads. The page says support pacs, but if you scroll all the way down to the bottom you'll see APARs and fixes. When you click to that page, you'll see them broken down by MQSeries version (1,2,5, etc) and from there broken down by OS. It then lists all the fixes and APARs for that particular configuration and you can click on each on to see the details... For instance, the URL for the AIX V5 APARs is:
http://www-4.ibm.com/software/ts/mqseries/support/summary/aix.html
