There are currently some problems with BlockIP2 and WebSphere MQ 6.0.1.1 and 6.0.2.0 on Windows and maybe also under *NIX. This problem is not present in 6.0.1.0.

The problem is: The Connection name is not presented by MQ, so BlockIP2 can't obtain it. And therefore not do any filtering based on it.

It seems like the problem is solved using efix IY86343.

A description is found here on IBM.com

IBM have promissed it should be solved in 6.0.2.1.

We follow with v5.1 and forgot the obeys on a retired machine two years ago. Now i don't have any v53 NSK QMgrs

This BlockIP2 tool used to be quite a popular and free security tool.

Are there still many happy users of it out there?

Thanks.

Hi,

We are using MQ series version 5.3 in our production environment. We have a problem with our blockip2. The version of blockip2 we are using is an older one and i am not sure which version too.
We are in a situation to add more PATTERN to blockip2, however we are restricted to 256 charcters by which we are not able to add more patterns to it.

Is there any way to add more PATTERN to blockip2 with the same older version that support MQ version 5.3 ?

The manual of version 2.78 reads, that there is a limit of 4096 characters on Patternns, Users, Blockusers. So maybe just go for the current version if your limit is 256.

the manual also reads that ic can easily elevated ... so just change the source if you want to keep that old version (if you still have the source)

Anyone using BlockIP2 with MQ 7.0.1.2 (on AIX for example), is it all OK?

Hi friends, I'm happy to say that i succeded to get the BlockIP2 package refreshed and included many smaller fixes.

The main improvements are: Support for Multi Instance queue managers, and configuration caching on z/OS.

Thanks very much for your continuing contribution of this invaluable exit.

It might be worth joining the IBM early program if wanted to test it with forthcoming MQ versions.

zpat, I know the IBM offerings, but I didn't have time to update the package, manual etc.

I've supported BlockIP2 even when nothing were published on mrmq.dk, I still see there is a demand for the solution. And there are still room for improvements.

I don't suppose you have a pre-compiled version for AIX or i-Series?

A version compatible with the GCC compiler on AIX would be handy as well.

Hi zpat,

IBM does not support GCC on AIX, so if you have to open a PMR with IBM then you will get the big-hand-in-the-face from IBM.

I know I have mentioned this before to you, there are commercially available server-side only security solutions for MQ that are supported on AIX, HP-UX IA64, HP-UX RISC, IBM i (OS/400), Linux x86, Linux on POWER, Linux on System z (zSeries), Solaris SPARC, Solaris x86_64, Windows and z/OS. Speaking of z/OS did you catch this announcement on a major price drop?
