Hi,

Has anyone come across or written a message flow that uses the information in an MQ message to produce a PDF file? (i.e rather than http to PDF)

Is this feasible?

Thanks,
Vicky

No!

However, I use an application on line for tax returns which generates PDF format receipts in almost real-time for the returns I make, so, it must be possible, if outside of WMQI.

Do you need to generate the PDF within WMQI, or can you generate the PDF and then send it across WMQI? I'm not familiar with PDF internals but at a guess it might be better to produce something intermediate like a template based word document which could then be converted to PDF using a PDF driver.

However, this would involve getting into activex? and macro? programming etc, none of which would form the basis of a bullet proof application?

Do not confuse Adobe PDF with the PDF format mentioned in the WMQI MRM, which is of course different. The PDF format supported by MRM is sort of a low bandwidth self defining message format which is largely used by WMQI itself internally, but not by customers for applications.

I don't know, but I would like to see where this goes.

Our websphere team already generate Adobe pdf's (probably in the same way as your tax returns), but this is from data in http format.
We have a new application that needs to generate a pdf based on information in an MQ message which will already be passing through WMQI (202) for routing.

The question is whether we can write a plugin to do this in WMQI and maybe use the ftp node to put it somewhere useful, rather than sending the MQ message to the web and them having to convert it to http then pdf.

I guess we can now we just have to decide whether it is worth the effort given that we have no plugin skills - yet!
Thanks,
Vicky
