Edited by Moderator This usefull information remains in the FAQ, the other information on this thread was moved to General Discussion!

You can go to http://www-1.ibm.com/certify/index.shtml and select the appropriate exam number.

The WebSphere MQ family now offers the following exams:

294 System Administrator - WMQ v5.3
296 Solution Designer - WMQ v5.3
297 Solution Developer - WMQ v5.3
298 System Administrator WBI Message Broker v5
299 Solution Designer WBI Message Broker v5
300 Solution Designer - WMQ Everyplace v2.0
292 Solution Designer - WMQ Workflow v3.4

I also believe that the old WMQI exams (290, 291) are still valid. The site will give you a link to the objectives of the test and what resources to use for studying.

Now, for the real question:

Since 6.0 is coming out soon, should people take the 5.3 exam now knowing they will also have to eventually take the 6.0 exam. Or, should they wait and only take the 6.0 exam.

Questions questions, dollars dollars...

Certifications never expire.

The relative value of a v6 certificate versus a v5.3 certificate is always employer dependant. The relative value of two certificates instead of one is also always employer dependant, but is likely to be greater.

Over time, a v6 certificate is going to have more value both within 6 months after it's available (becuase of newness) and after about a year after it's available (because of uptake of the new version).

That's exactly what I thought, however if you try and schedule the 294 exam on the Thomson Prometric website, you will get the following error message:

No Dates Found.

We're sorry. Your exam has expired. Please select another exam.

Does anyone know what is going on..?

Exams definitely expire. Why would someone want to take an exam for MQ version 2?

Certifications after exams don't, that I know of. If I had an MQ version 2 certification, it would still be good.

I would expect that 294 has expired for a short period until the v6 version comes out.

I think that 294 is still good. I just looked at the withdrawn exams:

http://www-03.ibm.com/certify/news/20041220d.shtml

and I don't see it listed. I also see where 294 is still on the site:

http://www-03.ibm.com/certify/certs/mqsywsmq53.shtml

and I don't see any comments about it not being valid.

Even when a V6 exam comes out, the 294 test should stay valid until the actual product is out of service. I'd go back to your testing group and ask again about the test and try to get more info from them.

I must say, I've been working as an Integration Consultant for 5 years now, and no one has even mentioned the word "certificate". In Israel it is completely unheard-of.
In fact, I first learned that it existed only a year ago, through this forum...

Just out of curiosity, is this truely a prerequisite for working as an MQAdmin in other countries?
