Hello:
We are currently running WBI MB v5.0 CSD04 on AIX, but planning to upgrade to CSD06 and we wish to also start using java2 1.4.1 JRE instead of java2 1.3.1 JRE (which is hardcoded for the broker to use). The IBM solution to this so far has been to ask us to create a link from /usr/java131 to /usr/java141 ( see http://www-306.ibm.com/software/integration/wbimessagebroker/requirements/notes.html ). That would work fine for the broker, but my other java apps on this box that are not compatible with java2 1.4.1 JRE are going to have issues with this. I realize I can copy /usr/java131 to /usr/java131_JRE or something like that and just change paths, but I am more concerned with java apps that may hardcode like the broker does - either today or future. I have asked IBM for a patch to change to java2 1.4.1.....I am not a java expert, so can some of you out there that may know more about this subject please comment?

Thanks, Dan in Harrisburg, PA

You could always chroot the broker service user, so that what it thinks is /usr/java131 is actually something like /home/broker/usr/java/131...

But you might have to copy a lot of system stuff into /home/broker/... in order for that to really work.

I am not personally sure I would change the JRE that the broker is using, unless IBM says they will support it.

You likely won't run into other applications that have hardcoded /usr/java131...

Jeff - thanks for comments....yes, IBM will support - please read the web link I included in my original post. We want the broker up to 1.4.1 since a lot of our core classes for java code are at 1.4.1 and we can have msgflows calling java programs created with them. Thanks, Dan

It also appears that if I change the broker to use the JRE 1.4, I will lose support for the broker transport option WebSphere/MQ Real-Time Transport. This was webscale, JMS/IP, Direct IP - SOAP over JMS, JMS TextMessaging....uses Real-timeInput Real-timeOptimizedFlow and Publication built-in nodes. Maybe in the future IBM will support.....
