I think part of the problem would be for MQ to know when an appropriate time to throw away your perfectly good MQ connection would be.

It would be fairly trivial though to add this type of logic ...

It is the Queue Manager Name, not the QMID. If you delete and redefine your Queue Manager with the same name then the partner channels will reuse the same record they had before.

A long, long time ago Channels did used to key the Channel Sequence Number off the IP address but they haven't done that for many releases. Nowadays it is keyed off the 'other' Queue Manager ...
