hi,

- we want to use "reference messages" to transfer large files between 2 wsmq sites so my questions:

1 - is it possible for a client mqseries platform to send a reference mess (and its associated file) to a server site and to receive from a server a reference mess (and its associated file) ?

2 - are we obliged on the receiving site to use the amqsxrm exit to store the file on disc?

I don't believe a client can use this feature.

You're not obliged to use the sample program. You can read and understand how reference messages work and then implement your own channel exits to implement them.

Reference messages are implemented using message exits, which are not applicable to client channels.
